Today while I was at the cemetery, I went over by the flag pole, and just looked around at the valley below. I saw an elderly man walking along the wall where some who are cremated are... Then he went to the headstones....
This man looked at each and every headstone, marker, brick and plaque there was.
He came up to the top, and continued looking at each and every headstone. He was reverent when doing so. Not just looking, but paying respect to each grave.
I was shocked. I'd never seen anyone do that before. Usually when I see other people there, they either go and visit another grave and leave, or they disturb me by being obnoxiously rude.
After paying his respects to each grave, he left.
I went and sat in my usual spot by Jim's grave, and had been there about 10 minutes or so, when the man came back.
He came over to me.
"I don't know your circumstances, sweetheart, but I feel compelled to pray with you right now, would that be alright?"
Of course, I told him yes. So we prayed, and I told him the basic story of what had happened.
He told me he was looking for his friend whom he'd fought in Korea with. He's been looking for his friend for years, and has no idea where to look next.
This man is from Colorado, but his daughter lives near the cemetery, so anytime he comes to visit her, he goes looking for his friend. I didn't catch this mans name, but I just thought this was amazing...
I thanked him, and he left. I never know if I'll see him again, but I don't think I'll ever forget that man.
There truly are people who care out there, I know that... But to do what this man did, that takes some serious love for God and Country...

I hope the man finds what he is looking for. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. What a lovely man. I hope he finds his friend... and wouldn't it be wonderful if he found him before he found the grave marker.
It is so hard to know when to approach someone who is alone and mourning. In our culture we tend to view that as something very private and reserved for sharing with intimate friends and family only. And yet we all have some measure of loss that we can draw on to share compassion at loss over.
I am so happy that you both could share your hearts wounds and your love of God. Isn't it wonderful that He brought you to together for that moment. I am sure that man will not forget you either.

Yes, there are good people left in this world, not enough, but some. Thank you for sharing that story.
Dont you love how God deals so spontaneous with us. Help often does not come in a package we are looking for. We searve a Great God.
Wow, what an awesome story. I read your blog for the first time after seeing it on Charlies site. My heart just sank. Now there is no need for yourm reply as I am a strange man, but know this that on wednesday morning, another child of God lifted you up in prayer. God bless
That had me crying! What a beautiful story! Still praying for you

Isn't it awesome that after all these years, he still thinks about (and searches for) this friend? Truly awesome.
Made me think of angels unaware...In some way you both helped one another. I'm sure he'll never forget you, either.
